Sunny Bank

‘Sunny Bank’ is a large stone house set in approximately one half of an acre of mature gardens with large trees. It was originally built in 1872, and further extended in 1991. There is a car park at the front of the house for visitors.

It is very close to the centre of Tottington village, on an unmade, quiet residential road, overlooking fields and trees. Tottington is a small village with good bus routes to Bury and Bolton.  Within easy walking distance of Sunny Bank there are various Services and facilities, e.g. shops, several churches, library, health centre, pubs, post office, dentist and chemist.

‘Sunny Bank’ has a good range of facilities, whilst maintaining a homely quality. There is a diversity of living areas, with emphasis on the provision of space, homely non-institutional furnishings, and privacy. These areas include a conservatory, 2 TV lounges (of which one is smoking) 2 further lounge/dining rooms and 1 quiet lounge. All the 21 bedrooms provide single accommodation, and including washbasins and TV points.

Clients are encouraged to bring small items of personal belongings and to personalise their room. There are ample bathroom and toilet facilities on all floors.

The rear entrance provides disabled access to the building, and residents with some physical disabilities can be accommodated (For further details regarding suitability please refer to the “Criteria For Care/Support”).

Smoking facilities are limited to one lounge which is available from 8am to 11pm, when all cigarettes and lighters must be left overnight in the main office.  This is to eliminate further the risk of fire.

Residents have their own pay phone, on which private external calls can be made and received.  The phone is situated in a quiet part of the house separate from areas used by day care clients and visitors. Personal mobile phones can also be used.

Laundry facilities are located in the basement and clients who are able, and/or as part of their rehabilitation programme, can learn to use these independently.  All other (resident) laundry is done by staff. Equally, within the fully equipped kitchen, there is a rehabilitation area, which clients are able to access as part of their programme of activities, and to make drinks, etc. for their visitors. Residents’ pets are not allowed, as some of our residents are wary of certain animals.

Supported Accommodation

There are three supported accommodation properties of normal housing stock within the Bury area. These are: -

Greenside - For 3 Tenants

Which is a mid-terraced house with a hall and porch, dining/kitchen and lounge, and upstairs 2 bedrooms and a bathroom. The property has a small front garden and rear yard area.

Daisy Field - For 4 Tenants

Which is a mid-terraced house with accommodation on 3 floors. There are 4 individual bed-sits with 2 kitchens and 3 bathrooms, and communal hallways and lounge. The property has a small front garden and a large rear yard area.

There is also a locked medication facility in case a tenant is not self medicating.

Acres View - For 4 Tenants

Which is a large stone end terrace house, and due to the level of support and care provided, is the closest geographically to Sunny Bank.  It consists of 4 bedrooms, a large lounge, and kitchen/diner, a bathroom, and a walk in wet/shower room with toilet. The property has a small front garden and rear yard area.

There is also a locked medication facility in case a tenant is not self medicating.

The location of the properties is not specifically referred to in any literature, to ensure privacy and confidentiality for our tenants.

All properties are near community facilities and public transport routes. A payphone, which includes a direct free connection to Sunny Bank, is provided. A fire system, including emergency lighting, are fitted as well as fire equipment being provided. A comprehensive first aid kit is provided. A TV, DVD and music system, are provided for general use in the communal lounges.

All properties are fully furnished and equipped, and provision includes: -

  • all household linen (i.e. bedding, towels, bath sets and tea towels),
  • kitchen equipment (both small and large),
  • crockery,
  • general household equipment (e.g. vacuum cleaners, mop buckets etc.) and laundry equipment (e.g. washing machine, tumble dryer, iron, ironing board).

The properties are provided with pictures, ornaments, mirrors and other decorations to ensure a “homely” environment.  However, these can be removed at the tenant’s request, if they choose to purchase their own.
